Thoughts On Adoption and Family:
As soon as we realized we couldn’t conceive a child, we immediately thought of adoption. Jan’s mom was adopted, as were two of her cousins, so it did not seem strange or foreign to us. Recently we have learned a lot about open adoption and plan to work with the birthparents to create a relationship that works for them, for us, and for our child.

Our goal has always been to be a family. Children have always been a part of our life. We have six nieces and nephews and we spend as much time with them as possible. Jan uses her culinary training to bake and decorate special birthday cakes for each of them. Recently it was three cakes strung together to look like a train, and last year Jan helped them build and decorate an entire gingerbread village. While George would rather be throwing around a football with his nephews, he has been persuaded to play the occasional game of “Pretty Princess” (and Jan has the picture to prove it!).

We know there is more to our desire for a child than having fun. To raise a child in a loving environment, to carry on family traditions and to develop new ones, to encourage and inspire them to reach their dreams, to celebrate their accomplishments and provide comfort in the sad times, these are the things we truly look forward to.

We dream of welcoming a child into our home, and will never let a day go by that we do not thank you in our hearts for making that dream possible.
